Disciplinary Council

Major goals which are pursued by the Disciplinary Committee include protecting the lofty status of university, purification of educational and research environment, protecting general rights of academics by encouraging students to safeguard their dignity, preventing disorder and inattention to social norms as well as helping students respect personal and social rights of others.

Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee is run by Students and Cultural Department of the university. The High Council for Cultural Revolution adopted a decision on July 11, 1995 according to which disciplinary committees are the sole authority seeing into students’ offenses and also the sole competent authority for judicial prosecution of possible crimes committed by students through concerned officials.

Powers and Duties of Disciplinary Committees

The Disciplinary Council of Students is the sole authority qualified to see into students’ offenses and complaints and in addition to fulfilling its duty in preventing students disregard for lofty ethical norms set for them, it also tries not to insult them or humiliate them even when their offenses are established. The following is a summary of disciplinary rules and subsequent punishments:

One: Offenses

A.   Educational and administrative offenses

-         Cheating at exams;

-         Sitting for exams instead of another student;

-         Doing anything which will interrupt programs of the university or dormitory;

-         Damaging the university property;

-         Disregard for regulations at the university or dormitory;

B.   Moral offenses

-         Abuse of illicit drugs or alcoholic drinks, gambling or dealing in such items;

-         Playing unauthorized visual or audio tapes or CDs and taking part in illegal selling and distribution of such items;

-         Disregard for the Islamic code of dress and wearing indecent clothes or unsuitable makeup;

-         Disregard for decent behavior or insulting Islamic tenets;

C.   General offenses including insult, beating, forgery, stealing and bribery;

D.   Political offenses including acting against national security;

Two: Punishments

A.   Punishments administered by the Disciplinary Committee:

1.     Summoning and issuing oral warning;

2 & 3. Written warning or written note without recoding in student’s file;

4 & 5. Written warning or written note recorded in student’s file;

6. Assigning 0.25 as the mark for the lesson to which the offense is related;

7 & 8. Exacting compensation from the student and deprivation from facilities (such as dorm…);

9 & 10. Temporary suspension of education with or without counting the period of suspension.
