According to the Public Relation and International Affairs Department of SUTIC, the 1st Spaghetti Bridge Building Contest was held in cooperation with Kish Cup Group of the International Campus along with Kish Education Organization. The event was held at Minoo Hall of Sharif University of Technology, International Campus on Thursday Feb 2nd, 2017.

130 school students of the island participated in the Contest and 57 model bridges were presented by 40 teams of 2 to 3 students. The bridges were judged with regard to their weight, style, and aesthetic design. The event was held in the presence of SUTIC’s president, Dr. Selk Ghafari, a number of university lecturers, Deputy Head of cultural and social affairs of Kish Free Zone Organization, Dr Rezvani, Head of Kish Education Organization, Dr Javidi, the school principals and teachers, the Deputy assistance of Iranian Judiciary’s Crime Prevention Department, Dr Amiri, and Council Secretary of Public Awareness Raising, Notices, and Opinion Polls, Dr Jafari.

The SUTIC president pointed out the objectives of the contest as familiarizing the school students with educational and research activities in the university environment as well as getting familiar with engineering fields, he also considered the goals as encouraging healthy social Contests and team work among school students. He continued that such events help the students practice the university culture by stepping into the university students’ lives, strengthen the research spirit, familiarize the participants with management concepts and time management techniques.

Dr. Selk Ghafari continued by pointing out the university’s future perspectives in preparing the ground for attracting foreign students with accordance to the country’s Free Zones’ potentials. He mentioned the number of students graduated from undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs as more than two thousand from the establishment of the university on the island in 2004. He also added that SUTIC has been acting strongly in the field of technology, education, and research during the years.

Dr. Rezvani , KFZO Deputy Head of cultural and social affairs considered school students as future makers of the country so he advised them to plan a bright future for themselves; he reminded that the 1st times never happen again; therefore, he asked the students to remember their first Spaghetti Bridge Contest’s experience in SUTIC.
In the end he thanked the Sharif University and the Education Organization as well as the principals and school teachers for organizing a healthy competition.
The Head of Kish Education Organization expressed his appreciation of the holders and organizers and acknowledged the organization’s preparation in having further future-oriented cooperation with the university.

Dr. Javidi requested assistance from SUTIC to have tight collaboration with the education organization since the educational facilities and exclusive condition of the SUTIC can help to familiarize the potential and top students with research and science-oriented activities.

Following the speeches, the teams were scored with regard to the three fields of weight, style, and aesthetic design.
